Turkey Day Approved – Foods for Folks with Braces

simpsonville sc orthodontics for thanksgivingOne of the best things about Thanksgiving is my cousin Pam’s macaroni and cheese. I like to consider myself a mac and cheese connoisseur, as it’s been my favorite food since I can remember. The ratio of cheese to noodles has to be just right, and there should be a shallow pooling of butter swimming around at the top so you know it’s got all the fat in it to make it delicious. Besides the fact that macaroni and cheese is the best food on the planet (according to me), it also graciously lends itself to a braces-friendly diet. If you’re wondering what foods make the braces-friendly cut for Thanksgiving, here are some ideas to help you out.

Grab a plate and fill it up with these tasty dishes:

  • Turkey and ham (in small bites)
  • Stuffing/dressing
  • Gravy
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Green beans
  • Squash casserole
  • Corn off the cob
  • Steamed vegetables
  • Cornbread/biscuits/rolls
  • Chocolate pie
  • Sweet potato pie
  • Pumpkin pie
  • Cake without nuts

Just say no to the following:

  • Turkey and ham (in large portions or straight off the bone)
  • Corn on the cob
  • Nuts or casseroles with nuts in them
  • Apples
  • Raw vegetables
  • Dried fruits
  • Pecan pie
  • Hard or chewy candy
